Coming in 2009 NEW Michelin Tweel Tire

Michelin is supposed to release this new 'tweel' tire to the public this year some time.

Made me wonder what it would look like with different wheels so I photoshopped it real quick.

Obviously the wheels for the tweel tire will need to be smaller than ordinary wheels, so these may look distorted because i downsized the wheels.

< i like the 4th and 6th wheel with the tweel tire

Need more thought on your "wheel". From what I can see the wheel is also deformable, not just the spokes. Thus it sort of rules out hubcaps and anything that won't provide the right kind or amount of flexibilty. Although I s'pose a covering (hubcap) could be designed into the tweel, as long as it didn't disturb the flexing of the tweel underneath it. Sort of contary to the idea of eliminating things that could go wrong thou, but on the plus side might stop stones and the likes getting lodged between spokes and the other deformable parts of the tweel. 2/22/2009 3:36 PM | Stephen Taylor

Looks like a good idea but will they last longer than a regular tire or will they need replaced more often? 7/8/2009 2:02 PM | Kleingang

I thought the inside "wheel" area of the tweel moved somewhat also? 8/26/2009 2:47 PM | Jim

I think the concept is a terrific idea, however as indicated to some extent above, having the "spokes" open to the world poses some real concerns, i.e., having to park the vehicle outside, possibly in the winter months where snow and water can get into the "spokes" and freeze. What happens when one gets up in the morning and tries to drive off to work with the tweels frozen in 3' inches of ice? There's also the consideration for the little neighborhood vandals who decide it might be fun to cut through some random spokes to see what happens when someone tries to drive away.. and maybe get on the highway. I think there's a considerable amount of design work to be done before these are comercially available. 2/23/2010 12:19 PM | Wilson
